  • Preserves the structural integrity of the cornea

In Clearvision Epi-LASIK, there is no cutting into the cornea, unlike LASIK or Intralase LASIK, and therefore the cornea strength or integrity is preserved. This can likely prevent cornea ectasia, a sight threatening irreversible cornea thinning condition.
   
  • Better for patients with thin corneas

With the cornea laser sculpting done on the cornea surface, patients with thin corneas are more likely to be corrected at the desired amount of correction, without compromising the treatment zone size. This reduces complaints of glares and haloes in patients with large pupils.
   
  • Avoids the danger of cutting a cornea flap

LASIK or Intralase LASIK cuts the cornea using blades or laser to create a Cornea Flap. Cornea Flap related complications such as Flap Wrinkles, Dislodgement, Diffuse Lamellar Keratitis, Epithelial Cells in-growth and Flap Infections can occur. In LASIK or Intralase LASIK, cutting a cornea flap with either blades of laser may sever the cornea nerve endings that provide a feedback to the brain for the lubrication of the cornea. This causes dry eyes. In Clearvision Epi-LASIK, little or no cornea nerves are severed.
